Academic IELTS Writing Task 2 Topic ( In January, 2016) & Band 9 Model Essay. Posted: 21 Sep 2016 09:13 AM PDT IELTS Writing Actual Test in January, 2016 & Band 9 Argumentative Essay – Topic:Prison is the common way in most countries to solve the problem of crime. However, a more effective solution is to provide people with a better education. Agree or disagree. Band 9.0 sample Many people believe that the reduction of the crime rate will be achieved more effectively through better education rather than prison sentences. I disagree with this view, because I consider that both approaches have their own distinctive merits and should each play an integral role in tackling crime. On the one hand, I would argue that prison is effective in dealing with offenders. One reason is that a person who commits a crime must learn that unlawful actions have consequences. Murderers, for instance, must be imprisoned for many years and such a punishment may act as a deterrent. They know that they will face loss of freedom, social isolation and separation from their loved ones if they carry out such a criminal act. Another reason is that when serious offenders are behind bars, they are no longer a danger to society and people can walk in the streets or relax in their homes more safely. On the other hand, I consider that education has a complementary role to play. Firstly, in schools, students should study some aspects of the law which affect their lives. Having some knowledge of the law, students are better prepared to avoid situations which may involve them in crime or becoming a victim. For example, youngsters must study the important laws about driving and road safety. Secondly, in prisons themselves, educational programmes must aim to provide prisoners with skills and qualifications to find work when they are released. I believe that prison sentences are one essential weapon in the fight against crime, and I disagree that providing better education alone is a more effective solution to reduce the crime rate. (275 words) Use words/phrases: the crime rate: a measure of the number of crimes in a particular area during a period of time Example: As a result of more unemployment, the crime rate in the area is increasing. distinctive: having a quality that makes something different and easily noticed. Example: My teacher has a distinctive approach to teaching English. Unlike the other teachers, she does not teach any grammar. play an integral role in tackling crime: play an essential part [along with other pads] in dealing with crime. Example: Security cameras play an integral role in tackling crime in stores and other public places. commits a crime: does something wrong or illegal. Example: In the UK, a youngster who commits a crime by stealing a car will almost certainly go to prison. social isolation: the slate of separating somebody Example: Some form of social isolation is necessary for people who are violent or dangerous to others.

The aim of the […………………………..]is to create something practical, […………………………..]and beneficial for consumers. Justify your decision. Jenny: Well, we believe we can design and build a cheap and effective […………………………..]-strengthening aid by taking […………………………..]of the inertial forces created by a gyroscope. It is much easier to talk to a group of friends than a group of […………………………..]. And, just as importantly, know your room as well. Arrive early, pace the speaking area and practice using the […………………………..] and visual aids. The hardest part is trying to relax. Never rush straight into your speech. Begin slowly and address the audience first. In fact, even before you start, take a few deep […………………………..]. You know – one one- thousand. two one-thousand, three one-thousand – this will turn your nervous energy into […………………………..]. Visualisation can be a great confidence […………………………..]. Visualise your- setf making the speech in the wav that you […………………………..]. Imagine your voice loud and […………………………..], and picture the audience […………………………..]and rooting for you. IELTS Cue Card Sample 42 – Topic: A Product You Were Happy With Posted: 21 Sep 2016 01:08 AM PDT IELTS Cue Card for IELTS Speaking Part 2:Describe a product you bought that you were happy with. BAND 9.0 SAMPLE ANSWER 1: It was last summer that I bought a new yogurt maker and I am very satisfied with it. This machine is quite small and fits conveniently into my kitchen. Interestingly, it looks like a cooker with six glasses inside. And the most important thing is that it is very easy to use. You just have to pour the mixture of ingredients to make yogurt into these glasses, turn the yogurt maker on and leave it for a few hours. Then, you will have delicious home-made yogurt. Thanks to the simple instructions, I can make yogurt for my whole family any time I want. As yogurt is good for our health, eating it daily can make people healthier, it can help to prevent some potentially fatal diseases and boost the human immune system. Therefore, the members of my family have all adopted the habit of eating yogurt every day. Owning a yogurt maker helped me to cut down considerably the amount of time that it took to make yogurt, not to mention the higher quality as opposed to the traditional method. At present, I still make yogurt every day for my family with this machine and I think that this is an indispensable product for preparing an essential part of our regular diet. VOCABULARY: BAND 9.0 SAMPLE ANSWER 2: Last summer, I bought a Nokia smart phone that I was really satisfied with. My cell phone was the latest product from Nokia, so there were various useful applications such as video calling, emails, games, music players, and so on. I intended to use this smart hone to listen to music, make phone calls, send messages and check emails. I must say that this portable device helps me a lot no matter where I am. There were numerous reasons why I took an interest in this product. Firstly, I wanted to use it for entertainment purposes. I could refresh myself after a hard day‟s work by enjoying music or watching reality shows on the Internet. Moreover, thanks to this smart phone, I was ble to keep in touch with my old friends whom I could not meet in person regularly. Besides, his mobile phone helped me to handle my workload effectively. For example, I could check mails when waiting for the bus, which saved a lot of time. As a final point, I would emphasize that I chose the mobile phone myself. That was the main reason why I felt so happy with this product. VOCABULARY |
